Former Saatchi and Saatchi man Derek Bowden has been confirmed as Town's new chief executive. Chairman David Sheepshanks says that despite relegation the club still needs some to fulfil the role.

Town will learn their UEFA Cup qualifying round opponents on Friday morning at 11am. The draw in Geneva will reveal who Town will face in the Thursday, August 15th and Thursday, August 29th games. Town qualified for the UEFA Cup through the Fair Play League.

Amir Karic's Slovenians said goodbye to the World Cup with a 3-1 loss to Paraguay. Slovenia had already been eliminated before today's game, but will feel disappointed to have lost after playing against ten men for 69 minutes and being ahead at half-time. Paraguay, however, will be ecstatic after qualifying for the next round on goals scored.

Town keeper Matteo Sereni says he wants to return to Italy. Sereni, signed last summer from Sampdoria, is being linked with Brescia, however they deny any interest in the 27-year-old.

Matt Holland and Ireland come up against Germany today (KO 12.30pm BST) with Holland believing that his side can win, and that little notice should be taken of the Germans' 8-0 win against Saudi Arabia. Manager Mick McCarthy says that the Germans will "get their back-sides kicked" if they fail to take his side seriously.

George Burley and David Sheepshanks welcomed Town's return to Europe via the Fair Play League after last night's draw. However, the chairman says that a return to the Premiership is the priority while Burley hopes the club have learnt from last year's mistakes.

Town keeper Andy Marshall has hit back at Matteo Sereni's favouritism claims made earlier in the season. The Italian threw a minor Roy Keane after losing his place in the Town side with Marshall the major recipient of his invective.
